Abstract

Drug abuse is a serious problem that has a negative impact on individuals and society. In recent decades, art and movement expressions such as dance have been used as an alternative approach in understanding and conveying the impact of drug addiction. This research aims to analyze how dance can be a medium of movement expression for drug addicts in describing their life journey, including the destruction caused by addiction. This dance manuscript tells a description of a dance work entitled “Pecandu Petaka” which describes several problems, namely, 1) How the audience can understand and respond to messages about drug addiction through symbolism and body movement expressions in dance, 2) What are the elements of movement the dominant body in expressing the emotional and social suffering of drug addicts. The method used in creating this dance work uses qualitative methods with a holistic approach, in-depth interviews, participant observation and content analysis. From the explanation above, the result of the creation of this dance work is an expression of expression through body movements which is visualized in the dance media “Pecandu Petaka” which tells about drug users and their impacts, depicting women who use drugs with various characters. up to the withdrawal stage and its impact. If drug users are not treated immediately, prisons and cemeteries will become the source.
