This study aims to analyze the factors causing high rates of out-of-school children (ATS) in Polewali Mandar Regency and efforts to address them. This study uses a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches to provide a more comprehensive picture of the ATS problem. The qualitative approach was used to explore the underlying factors, such as socioeconomic conditions, culture, and policies that influence children’s decisions to drop out of school. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and direct observation in the field. The quantitative approach was used to measure the extent to which factors such as poverty, access to education, and parental involvement influence school dropout rates, using surveys and questionnaires distributed to children, parents, and teachers. Primary data was obtained directly from the source, while secondary data was taken from statistical reports, education agencies, and related research. The results of the study show that economic factors, low parental attention, and limited educational facilities are the main causes of ATS in Polewali Mandar Regency. Efforts to address this issue include strengthening educational assistance programs and improving educational facilities. This study contributes to the development of more effective and inclusive education policies that involve the government, community, and private sector.
