Towards a Local Wisdom-Based Pedagogy: The Urgency of Nggahi Rawi Pahu in Cooperative Learning Development

This study explores the urgency of integrating local wisdom into cooperative learning, focusing on Nggahi Rawi Pahu, a cultural principle from Dompu that emphasizes respect, accountability, and social harmony. The purpose is to address the gap between generic cooperative learning models and the socio-cultural realities of students, and to examine how local wisdom can enhance relevance and inclusivity in education. The study adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, drawing on literature review, classroom observations, and interviews with three teachers, five students and one practitioner. Thematic analysis was applied to connect the values of Nggahi Rawi Pahu with cooperative learning dimensions. Findings indicate that while cooperative learning is widely practiced, it often neglects cultural integration, reducing it to mechanical group work. Embedding Nggahi Rawi Pahu strengthens character and social ethics, enhances collaborative skills through respectful dialogue, and fosters cultural identity, offering students both academic and cultural benefits. Challenges remain, particularly the lack of structured guidelines and limited teacher training in culturally responsive pedagogy. The study concludes that embedding Nggahi Rawi Pahu into cooperative learning is urgent and transformative, with significant theoretical contributions to culturally responsive pedagogy and practical implications for curriculum reform, teacher training, and policy development.
